Orbis Fuels New Concordia U. Portland Pre-Nursing Degree Program
Orbis Education expanded its service agreement with Concordia University-Portland to develop and launch the University’s new Associate of Arts in Pre-Nursing program. Concordia’s pre-nursing program is entirely online and allows students with at least 12 college credits to complete their general education and elective courses, creating a direct pathway to enrollment in the university’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program.
“We are committed to helping our academic partners broaden the breadth of their nursing education program offerings so that more students can pursue careers in this high-demand profession,” explained Steve Hodownes, chief executive officer of Orbis Education.
Concordia’s online Associate of Arts in Pre-Nursing provides the same high-quality curriculum as an on-ground program with support from admissions and academic advising while enrolled in the program. Upon completion of the program, students who meet admissions criteria and pass an interview requirement will be admitted into Concordia University-Portland’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) or they may apply to another BSN program.
Concordia University-Portland’s nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education – recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as the national accreditation agency to ensure the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing.
Concordia and Orbis began collaborating in 2017 to launch a 16-month Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program for students who completed their general education requirements and nursing pre-requisites. Concordia’s ABSN delivers a high-quality, clinically intensive nursing education in a short amount of time, through a blend of online learning, practical application in a simulation lab, and in-hospital clinical rotations at top healthcare facilities throughout the Portland area. In April 2017, Orbis was instrumental in Concordia’s opening of its new Nursing Skills Center at 9600 SW Barnes Road in Portland, Ore., adjacent to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Concordia University-Portland is currently accepting applications for the January 2019 start of the pre-nursing program.
